As a Member of ConSpa, Phoenix Products would like to pass on the following information regarding the grandfather clause for the Pool and Spa Service License.
The State of Connecticut has recently passed legislation that has extended the grandfathering clause for the Pool & Spa Limited Service License.
Sec. 507. Subsection (d) of section 20-417aa of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof (Effective from passage):
(d) Any person engaged in swimming pool maintenance and repair work prior to July 1, 1999, may apply to the Department of Consumer Protection for the appropriate limited license and such license shall be issued without examination upon demonstration by the applicant of experience and training equivalent to the experience and training required to qualify for examination for the appropriate limited license, if such applicant makes such application to the department not later than January 1, 2006.
You may apply to the Department of Consumer Protection for your license with the following criteria:
You must have been in business prior to July 1, 1999. You must prove the length of time you have been in business by banking information, contractor registration information, etc. You must also demonstrate to the State that you are experienced and have received appropriate training. This may be done by enclosing with your application copies of heater school certificates, letters of recommendations, control school certificates, NSPI Tech I and Tech II certification, and other course certificates. Letters of recommendation from previous employers or customers will also be helpful.
